GET TO KNOW ME

Michelle E. Michalkovic, LICSW

I've sat in hopelessness, I know fear, I know despair and grief.  I've been defeated and I have been triumphant.  I understand resilience and courage and the path from being overwhelmed to an existence of being present and intentional in your life and I know peace.

You are not alone.  There is hope and help.

Professionally I have worked in the field of Human Services and Mental Health for 30 years.  Currently I work internationally with expatriate individuals and families around the world and I hold licensure in the state of Vermont, LICSW, and in New York State, LCSW-R.

In Working with Adolescents, Adults, Seniors, Couples, Groups, Teams and Businesses my interest is in providing opportunities for people to heal, grow, learn and flourish. The path isn't easy and will challenge you, however relief is possible.

Clinically I utilize a range of modalities that are flexible and tailored to the individual.  Some of these frameworks include person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory, brief therapy, strengths coaching, psychodynamic theory, trauma-informed care, positive psychology & mindfulness techniques.

You deserve to be heard, supported, empowered and validated as you navigate both the pleasures and the challenges life brings forth.

About : About Me

Sometimes it is difficult to know where to turn.  Grieving can feel like a very lonely place and we don't want to be a  burden to others.  It can be difficult to find someone who is comfortable talking about death, dying and loss.  At times we are unable to explain how or why we are grieving or we think that we should be done grieving. Sometimes we don't even feel like what we are sad about should merit the intense feelings we have.

Grief is unique to you.  Your feelings are real and valid.  There are no exact timelines. Grief can be complicated.  Please reach out if you or someone you know is struggling with the loss of a loved one, a major life change, life transitions, loss of purpose in life, loss of employment, loss of a pet or any other loss.  You are not alone.  There is help and there is hope.

FUN FACTS

For 14 years I was a White Water Raft Guide on the Upper Hudson River and the Black River.  I loved meeting people from all over the world and taking them through the narrows and sharing with them the thrill of the rapids.  People are always amazed at what they can do and the fears they can overcome!

I lived in Switzerland for 10 years meeting individuals and families from around the world.  Experiencing life abroad has helped me to think openly, understand various cultures and share these understandings with others.
The cheeses and pastries in Europe are as divine as people say they are and the Swiss Mountains are more beautiful than the pictures.

I LOVE chocolate! What can I say? I love American chocolates, French chocolates, Swiss Chocolates, Spanish chocolates ...  I really don't discriminate!  I am a firm believer that a little chocolate can help almost any situation!
I try to practice what I preach, which is self care and sometimes just giving ourselves a little bit of comfort.
